"Fire - Child = Matches", Przychodnia Gallery, Eskulap Club, Poznań, Poland
The installation was made in three skylights installed in the roof of Eskulap, a well-known club in Poznań. In each of them, some hardly recognizable objects were moving mechanically on pink linen. The situation was quite uncomfortable for the audience. The skylights were located at a height of six meters, and people could see the objects just from below. When they finally recognized their shape – barking dogs, an old object of children's desires, it turned out that the toys were endowed with a characteristic organic quality – they were urinating. This peculiar life function in this case made it possible to leave a message. One of the dogs peed on the audience an inscription, “LOWE KROWE"- (“I love the cow”) – a Polish silly nursery rhyme once cited by children.
A phenotype stands for a set of anatomical, physiological and chemical characteristics of the body which result from the interaction of genotype and environmental conditions in which the body develops and stays. By letting the toys speak, the installation has become an ironic commentary on the modern version of man who builds strong emotional relationships with things.
